I’m Geraldine Bray, Fiscal Officer.
My book is The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Set in an alternative 1985 England, where literature is “the big thing”, instead of sports. The world has evolved to include time travel, cloning and the ability to “jump” into books, which allows one to physically interact with the literary characters. But be careful! If you jump into an original book, you could change all of the copies. Which is just what someone did to “Jane Eyre” when they kidnapped the main character herself! It’s up to Thursday Next, Spec Ops Literary Detective, to set things right, all while avoiding the Goliath Corporation and their insidious Toast Marketing Board (“Have you eaten your Toast today?”). The wordplay and literary puns throughout the book are a delight and makes it one of my favorite books.
